# How do I clock in with a QR code?

Scan the QR code at your workplace with the Kinmu app or your phone’s camera to clock in, and scan it again to take a break or clock out.

## On the app

1. ### Open the scanner

Tap **Start the day** or **Clock in** at the top of the screen.

**Scan QR code** opens with your camera. The first time, tap **Allow camera**.

2. ### Scan the QR code

Point your camera at the QR code at your workplace and place it inside the frame.

The scanner closes and the timer starts running.

## On the web

1. ### Scan the QR code

Open your phone camera and point it at the QR code at your workplace.

   A link to Kinmu appears.

2. ### Open the link

Open the link and sign in if asked. If you are already working, choose **Take a break** / **Resume** / **Clock out** in **What would you like to do?**.

For a clock-in, you see “Clock-in registered successfully”.

## If you don't see it

- If you see “Camera access needed”, tap **Allow camera**. If camera access is turned off, tap **Open settings** and allow it.
- If you see “This QR code is not valid for check-in.” or “Invalid or expired QR code”, make sure you are scanning your company’s QR code at your workplace.
- If the scanner doesn’t open when you tap the button, your company doesn’t require the QR code. Your clock-in is recorded directly.

## Common questions

### How do I take a break or clock out with the QR code?

Scan the same QR code again. In the app, tap **Clock out** and scan the code. In the browser, choose **Take a break**, **Resume** or **Clock out** in “What would you like to do?”.

### Why do I see “Manual clock-in not allowed” on the web?

Your team requires you to clock in with the QR code at your location. Scan it with your phone.

### Does scanning the QR code record my location?

Only if your company has enabled location check-in, and only at the moment you clock in. Kinmu never tracks you in the background.

## Result

Your clock-in is recorded with the time you scanned the code.
