Which holidays it uses

The 11 federal holidays of 2027 on the days OPM lists them as observed, plus December 31, when New Year’s Day 2028 is observed. You can see every date in US federal holidays 2027.

State holidays and company days off aren’t included: add them by hand and they come out straight away.

What it’s for

Knowing how many business days a month or a project has, how much PTO an absence uses or when a deadline falls. The result is a guide: if a contract or a rule counts days differently, that is what applies.

Frequently asked questions

How do you count business days between two dates?

Count every day between the two dates, both included, then take out the weekend days and any holiday that falls on a workday. A holiday on a Saturday or Sunday only counts on the day it is observed, which is the date the calculator uses.

How many business days are there in 2027?

249, on a Monday to Friday week with every federal holiday off. That is 261 weekdays minus the 11 federal holidays and December 31, when New Year’s Day 2028 is observed.

Do private employers have to give federal holidays off?

No. Federal holidays are set by 5 U.S.C. 6103 for federal employees, and whether your team gets the day off depends on your own policy, your contracts or a union agreement. Untick the holidays your company works, and add the ones it gives on top, like the day after Thanksgiving.

Can I count a different workweek?

Yes. Choose only the days you work under ‘Days you work’, for example Monday to Saturday, and the calculator counts just those.

Can I count business days in 2028?

Not yet: the calculator covers 2027, the year its federal holidays are set for.
