What it’s for

Knowing how many working days a month or a project has, how much leave an absence uses or when a deadline falls. The result is a guide: if a contract or a rule counts days differently, that is what applies.

Frequently asked questions

How do you work out the working days between two dates?

Count every day between the two dates, both included, then take off the days you don’t work each week and any bank holiday that falls on a working day. A bank holiday at the weekend changes nothing if you don’t work weekends.

How many working days are there in 2027 in the UK?

On a Monday to Friday week, with every bank holiday off: 253 in England and Wales, 252 in Scotland, 251 in Northern Ireland. That is 261 weekdays minus the bank holidays, which all fall on weekdays in 2027 thanks to the substitute days.

Does everyone get bank holidays off?

Not by law. There is no statutory right to time off on a bank holiday: it depends on the employment contract. That is why every bank holiday in the calculator can be unticked if your team works it.

Can I count a part-time or six-day week?

Yes. Tick only the days you work under ‘Days you work’, for example Monday to Wednesday, and the calculator counts just those.

Can I work out dates in 2028?

Not yet: the calculator covers 2027, the year its bank holidays are confirmed for.
