Who Alabama state holidays apply to

State holidays in Alabama are the days the state gives its own employees off with pay. They don’t bind private employers: whether your team gets these days off, and whether they’re paid, depends on your policy, your employment contracts or a union agreement.

Alabama doesn’t require private employers to give holidays off or pay extra for working them. The one exception in the holiday law covers banks, which must close on Veterans Day along with state, county and city offices and public schools.
