To be confirmed
- Lundi Gras, Monday, February 8: It needs a proclamation from the governor, as in 2026.
- National Memorial Day, Monday, May 31: It’s a holiday only if the governor proclaims it, which has happened every recent year.
- Juneteenth Day, Friday, June 18: Juneteenth Day is a legal holiday in Louisiana (R.S. 1:58.2 and Act 128 of 2021), but it isn’t on the statutory list of state-office holidays, so the governor proclaims the day off each year, as in 2026, and sets it on a weekday when June 19 falls on a weekend.
- Independence Day, Monday, July 5: July 4 is a Sunday, and each agency head picks the nearest workday, normally Monday, July 5.
- Acadian Day, Friday, November 26: The governor proclaims it for the Friday after Thanksgiving; it was proclaimed in 2025.
- Christmas Day, Friday, December 24: December 25 is a Saturday, and the agency head picks the nearest workday, Friday, December 24 or Monday, December 27, unless the governor sets the dates.

Who Louisiana state holidays apply to
State holidays in Louisiana are the days the state gives its own employees off with pay. They don’t bind private employers: whether your team gets these days off, and whether they’re paid, depends on your policy, your employment contracts or a union agreement.
Louisiana’s holiday law covers state departments, courts, legal deadlines and some banks. We found no Louisiana law that requires private employers to give state holidays off or to pay extra for working them. Source: La. R.S. 1:55, Holidays.
Holidays that fall on a weekend
When a Louisiana holiday falls on an employee’s day off, the holiday moves to the nearest workday before or after, as the agency head designates. The governor routinely adds days by proclamation, such as Lundi Gras, Juneteenth and Acadian Day.
In 2027:
- Juneteenth Day falls on Saturday, June 19 and is observed on Friday, June 18 (to be confirmed).
- Independence Day falls on Sunday, July 4 and is observed on Monday, July 5 (to be confirmed).
- Christmas Day falls on Saturday, December 25 and is observed on Friday, December 24 (to be confirmed).
How Louisiana compares with the federal holidays
Of the 11 federal holidays, Louisiana doesn’t give state employees a paid day off for Presidents’ Day and Columbus Day. On top of the federal list, it adds Lundi Gras on Monday, February 8; Mardi Gras Day on Tuesday, February 9; Good Friday on Friday, March 26; and Acadian Day on Friday, November 26.
Days that don’t close offices and optional holidays
These days are on the state’s list but aren’t full paid days off, so they’re not in the count or the calendar download.
- Battle of New Orleans, Friday, January 8: legal holiday, but not a day off for state employees.
- Washington’s Birthday, Monday, February 15: optional holiday, only if the governor proclaims it. To be confirmed. The governor can proclaim at most two of Washington’s Birthday, Memorial Day and Huey P. Long Day, and one has to be Memorial Day.
- Huey P. Long Day, Monday, August 30: optional holiday, only if the governor proclaims it. To be confirmed. The governor can proclaim at most two of Washington’s Birthday, Memorial Day and Huey P. Long Day, and one has to be Memorial Day.
