Who Virginia state holidays apply to
State holidays in Virginia are the days the state gives its own employees off with pay. They don’t bind private employers: whether your team gets these days off, and whether they’re paid, depends on your policy, your employment contracts or a union agreement.
Virginia’s legal holidays apply to the transaction of business, such as state offices, courts and banking deadlines. They don’t require private employers to give the days off or pay a premium, and we found no Virginia law that does. Source: Code of Virginia 2.2-3300, Legal holidays.
